Why does Atari want information about me, such as what console do I own and where do I buy games?
Atari Australia/NZ is interested in ensuring that all members are receiving relevant information to their gaming preferences and according to what hardware system you own and use. By providing information that is relevant to what you play and like it ensures you have a better experience using the Atari website and also get relevant offers and updates on games that you are interested in.

Why hasn't my email been answered?
Atari receives many enquires ranging from people trying to track down a particular game to people wishing to submit a game idea or wanting to know how to get a job in the games industry. Whilst we make every effort to answer people's e-mails, sometimes the limitations of time and resources will make this impossible. We do however, value your comments and appreciate the effort you have invested to make them.

What is the benefit of playing computer games over say watching a video?
The 'interactive' nature of gaming products enables that the storyline is not a forgone conclusion, as it is in movies.

Is it true that playing computer games is anti-social?
No, multiplay gaming is a social activity (usually in internet cafes, or LAN groups which are not unlike other hobby/interest groups). Individual gaming should be done in moderation, same as one would hope television is watched within reason (not to extremes).

How much is the computer game industry to blame for increased levels of obesity in the community, particularly among children?
There is no evidence to show that video gaming is a major specific cause of obesity.

But you are encouraging children to stay indoors and play computer games rather than playing sport and having physical exercise?
No, we are not. It is not an 'either-or' situation. Computer games are just another entertainment option, and IEAA Members encourage all computer game owners and users to also engage in regular physical exercise. Hundreds of thousands do. There is time to do everything, in moderation, and to enjoy a balanced lifestyle. IEAA Members encourage people to play computer games in moderation and to have regular physical exercise as well.

Are you worried about the correlation between increased violence in the community and the playing of computer games containing violence?
No direct or systemic correlation between the playing of computer games and violence has ever been established. IEAA Members vest a lot of time and money to ensure that their interactive entertainment products are submitted for classification in accordance with classification guidelines as set by the Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC). That classification system is a great way of informing parents that certain games are not appropriate for their children to play, and we leave it up to the OFLC to determine what games should or should not be given particular classifications. The system means there is proper publishing of classifications on games for retailers, parents and children to clearly see, and make purchases accordingly. The vast majority of games available for purchase are not classified as containing violence and are suitable for children to play.

I've downloaded a video and it doesn't have sound or image when playing. What am I doing wrong?
Some newer videos are encoded in new video CODECs. CODECs are used to decompress video and audio so it works normally on your PC when playing. Because of this, you may need to update to the latest version of the following players to get some videos to work if they are not already doing so.
Divx Player and Codec. This will update your Windows Media Player
Quicktime Movie Player. This is a stand alone player.
Windows Media Player.
We try to encode all our movies so they work in Windows Media Player so that you will not have difficulties seeing the best image and sound quality.
If you download a movie that doesn't work and have updated the players listed above, please contact support.australia@atari.com
